Der Nil Student:innenkeller hat nach zwei Jahren Renovierungsphase wieder eröffnet! Zwei speakUP-Redakteur:innen haben ihn sich für euch angeschaut. Von Hannah Mück und Lukas Reynert.
Was bisher geschah
Für alle Studierenden, die ähnlich wie wir, erst seit ein paar Semestern an der Uni Potsdam studieren, ist der Nil Student:innenklub nur aus Erzählungen älterer Studis ein Begriff. Auch wenn einige von euch möglicherweise sogar noch ein Semester auf dem Campus genießen konnten, bevor wir alle von Zuhause aus arbeiten mussten, konnten wir den Keller nie nutzen, weil er im Februar 2019 geschlossen wurde. Die Studierenden, die den Klub oft besucht haben, schwärmen von dem kleinen Gewölbekeller in Haus 11, also direkt neben den Kolonnaden am Neuen Palais. Bis spät in die Nacht wurde dort getanzt, getrunken und gefeiert. Eine speakUP-Redakteurin hatte sich bereits mit der spannenden Geschichte des Studierendenkellers auseinandergesetzt.
Der Nil Studierendenklub musste im Februar 2019, vor gut zwei Jahren, wegen Baumängeln (u.a. Defekte an der elektrischen Anlage oder Fehlen regelkonformer Rettungswege) geschlossen werden. Während Gerüchte rumgingen, der Keller sei jetzt für immer geschlossen, hat der Nil e.V. damals schnell verkünden können, dass der Klub wieder aufmachen wird.
In der Zeit der Renovierung hat der Nil e.V. immer wieder Veranstaltungen als „Nil im Exil“, also in anderen Potsdamer Veranstaltungsstätten, durchgeführt. An der Renovierung waren verschiedene Gruppen beteiligt: das Projektmanagement der UP, der Nil e.V., das Hochschulgebäudemanagement Potsdam, ein Architekt und die Stiftung Preußischer Schlösser und Gärten (SPSG), da der Gewölbekeller der Stiftung gehört.
Besichtigung des Nils
Anlässlich der Inbetriebnahme des Nils am 20.04.2021, gab es schon einen Tag vorher am 19.4.2021 die Möglichkeit, bei einer Besichtigung einen Blick in den renovierten Student:innenkeller werfen zu können. Der Nil erhielt durch seine zweijährige Renovierung eine neue Ausstattung. Dazu zählen bequeme Sitzmöglichkeiten und Arbeitsplätze für Studierende. Neue LEDs, WLAN und Steckdosen ermöglichen ein besseres Arbeitsklima. Denn neuerdings bietet der Nil auch die Möglichkeit, dass Studierende dort arbeiten können. Dies ist von Montag bis Donnerstag von jeweils 10-18 Uhr möglich. Aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie dürfen sich im Student:innenkeller maximal 9 Personen gleichzeitig aufhalten.
Im Hinblick auf zukünftige Partys wurde auch einiges getan. Dazu gehörten ein Trinkbrunnen und eine neue Theke, die in naher Zukunft erwartet wird. Die Arbeitstische und Stühle aus den Lernräumen werden wohl laut des Nil e.V. für Partys weggeräumt. Der Nil ist endlich wieder jederzeit einen Besuch wert!

The Most Beautiful Cellar in Town – an Update about the Nil Student:innenkeller
After two year of construction work, the Nil students’ cellar (Nil Student:innenkeller) has reopened! Two speakUP editors visited the newly renovated cellar. By Hannah Mück and Lukas Reynert.
Previously at the Nil
For all students, who just like me, have only been studying at the University of Potsdam for a few semesters, we know Nil students’ cellar only from stories from senior students. Students who frequented the club cellar before it had to be closed in February 2019, tell stories about legendary parties and lovely evenings in the historical, vaulted basement in house 11, next to the colonnades on the Campus Neues Palais. A former speakUP editor has already written an article about the interesting history of said basement.
The cellar had to be closed in February 2019 due to building defects (such as damages in the electrical system or missing emergency exits). While there were wild rumours about the club never opening again, the responsible association, the Nil e.V., was able to announce that the club would reopen in the future.
In the time of the construction work, the Nil e.V. organised numerous events called “Nil in Exile”, meaning parties in other venues in Potsdam, such as the Pub à la Pub or Waschhaus. There were several people/organisations involved in the renovation: the project management of the UP, the Nil e.V., the Building Management of the UP, an architect and the Prussian Foundation for Palaces and Parks (SPSG) as the basement is a part of world cultural heritage.
Visit of the new Nil
On the reopening of the Nil on 20th April 2021, there was the opportunity to have a look around a day before. What’s new about the Nil Student:innenkeller is that us student can work there as well as have a party. During the day (10am-6pm, Monday to Thursday), there is a workplace to work in groups and learn. Because of the pandemic, only nine students are allowed in the basement at a time. But now we can enjoy new equipment and furnishing such as comfortable seating. For a better learning environment, new LEDs, Wi-Fi and wall sockets have been installed.
Regarding future parties (post-Corona of course), there have been some changes in the Nil as well: a new water fountain and a new bar will be expected in the basement soon. According to the Nil e.V., the tables and chairs will be removed from the back of the cellar for parties. The Nil is once again always worth a visit!
