Im November wird es futuristisch und bewegend, sowohl auf der Leinwand als auch auf der Bühne. Was sonst noch im nächsten Monat in Potsdam und Berlin los ist, findet ihr in der aktuellen Ausgabe unseres Eventkalenders. Von Victoria Lisek.

Wie kann das Meer dem Klima helfen, wie gestalten wir das Zusammenleben von Mensch und Maschine und wie kann Kreislaufwirtschaft städtisches Leben nachhaltiger machen? Unter dem Slogan „Dare to Know“ sollen im Rahmen der Berlin Science Week aktuelle Tendenzen in der Forschung vorgestellt werden.  So verschieden die Perspektiven und Themen sind, so vielfältig sind auch die Formate: Ob klassische Podiumsdiskussionen, „Book a scientist“ oder Kochen für die Mikroben – interessant wird es auf jeden Fall.

Screening: „Get Out“

Der vielfach ausgezeichnete Horrorfilm bzw. Social Thriller „Get Out“ von Jordan Peele reflektiert den Alltagsrassismus und den damit verbundenen realen Ängsten auf eine bemerkenswert fesselnde Weise. Am 3. November wird dieser Film vom Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik nach einer Einleitung von Dr. Verena Adamik gezeigt und anschließenden im Publikum diskutiert.

European Arthouse Cinema Day

Anlässlich diesen cineastischen Highlights führen zahlreiche Berliner Kinos, u. a. der Yorck Gruppe, Filme des Arthouse Genres vor, darunter auch einige Premieren. Vor dem Babylon-Kino werden außerdem Plakate weltberühmter Filme angeboten, mit deren Erlös Geflüchteten kostenlose Kinobesuche ermöglicht werden sollen.

Anders als im Hörsaal, wo es bekanntermaßen meist abstrakt zugeht, versuchen Forscher:innen und Studierende beim ersten Science Slam der Uni Potsdam Wissenschaft so anschaulich und unterhaltsam wie möglich darzustellen; zum Beispiel wie Philosophie euer Leben retten und wie man Escape Games im Unterricht spielen kann.

Teil des Programms sind „The Jakob Manz Project“, Johanna Summer und das „Leo Betzl Trio“, wobei letztere auf der anschließenden After Party ihre Techno-Sets spielen werden.

How can the ocean help the climate, how do we rethink the coexistence of humans and machines and how can the circular economy make urban life more sustainable? Following the slogan „Dare to Know“, current trends in research will be presented during the Berlin Science Week. The formats are as diverse as the perspectives and topics: there will be classic panel discussions, „Book a scientist“ or cooking for the microbes – anyway, it will definitely be interesting.

The award-winning horror film or social thriller „Get Out“ by Jordan Peele reflects on everyday racism and the real fears associated with it in a remarkably captivating way. On 3 November, this film will be shown by the Department of English and American Studies after an introduction by Dr. Verena Adamik, followed by a discussion with the audience.

European Arthouse Cinema Day

On the occasion of this cinematic highlight, numerous cinemas in Berlin, including those of the Yorck Group, will screen films of the arthouse genre. Posters of world-famous films will also be on sale in front of the Babylon cinema, the proceeds from which will be used to provide free cinema visits for refugees.

Unlike in the lecture hall, where things are usually rather abstract, researchers and students are challlenged to get the heart of scientific knowledge at the first Science Slam of the University of Potsdam; for example, how philosophy can save your life and how you can play Escape Games in class.
